COCCIMIX LAMONS  IMPROVES IMMUNITY AND RESISTANCE TO COCCIDIOSIS

Coccidiosis is an important source of economic losses as it is one of the most important and potentially devastating diseases in animal production. Coccidia disrupt the normal intestinal environment of infected animals causing poor absorption of essential nutrients, unnecessary animal suffering or even death.

Prevention against coccidiosis is based mainly on vaccination, while treatments are carried out by pharmacological treatment. But vaccines do not always cover the entire range of coccidia or the entire life of the animal. For its part, drug treatment, in addition to generating residues in food, is related to a high prevalence of resistance, which, together with increasingly strict regulations, have encouraged the development of alternative control strategies.

The alternative of Lamons S.A. is Coccimix Lamons, a combination of plant-based ingredients that has been shown to help control coccidiosis.

Nature provides various plants that contain phytochemicals with antiprotozoal and anticoccidial activity. Its mechanisms of action are varied. Some inhibit sporulation and dissemination of oocysts; others reinforce the intestinal barrier preventing cell invasion and slowing down their reproductive cycle. Others stimulate the immune response against the damaging effects of protozoa, strengthening the animals and their response to disease.

Coccimix Lamons has incorporated a combination of plants with these different mechanisms of action in the same product, thus covering the widest range of protection against coccidiosis.

The results were confirmed in a study carried out at the Animal Production Department of the University of Lleida, following the EFSA guide for tolerance and efficacy studies in target animals. The results at 10 days after starting the administration of Coccimix Lamons indicate:

  • A decrease in the number of intestinal oocysts eliminated.
  • A decrease in the number of intestinal lesions.
  • Greater immune response capacity.

The study allows us to conclude that the administration of 2 Kg/ton of Coccimix Lamons in the feed, for 10-15 days, improves immunity and resistance to coccidiosis, which translates into fewer intestinal lesions and less elimination of oocysts.

Many growers resist the use of products similar to Coccimix Lamons. It should be noted that similar competitor products are presented as a replacement for anticoccidial solutions, which in some cases leads to a bad experience. This is not the case of Coccimix Lamons, which is intended to reinforce the treatments (vaccines and/or medicines) of the farms, making them more effective. The objective is to complement the vaccination plan and reduce the use of anticoccidials of chemical origin, maintaining productive performance.

Therefore, the proposed uses for Coccimix Lamons are:

  • In case of risk of resistance due to having been using the same anticoccidial drug for more than 4 months. The combination will reduce risk and help maintain production performance.
  • During the withdrawal period of anticoccidial drugs to avoid a relapse in high-risk batches.
  • During the growth and/or fattening phase to control the growth of coccidia and the risk of infection, reducing the use of acticoccidial drugs.
